Andy, the wind project is terrific, and I'm all for it; but I wonder if anyone is paying attention to the problem of bat deaths because of the blades. Please check with Bat Conservation International (www.bci.com) and find out about the problem and what might be done.

I cannot thank PSE enough for the decrease of natural gas rates and the electric bill credit requests. I have already been agonizing over my household energy bills coming this winter. Survival is a word that frequently interjects itself into my daily life. Therefore I am very grateful for any relief from relentless cost increases.

Why are CFL's being pushed so hard by "Corporations"? CFLs are laced with highly toxic hazardous waste material.
I've read if a CFL bulb breaks and the mercury inside gets out, your house is basically a hazardous waste zone and is dangerous for children.
Who is looking out for the kids?, while pushing toxic light bulbs on everyone???

Andy, I think you're right on, but with the cost of renewable energy being so high - supply and demand will do that - it's a tough pill to swallow for customers who are footing the bill in rates no doubt.

As a utility person myself at Avista in Spokane, I've been talking to our customers about climate change and clean energy too and I think you capsized the discussion pretty well.

I think 5 or 10 years from now, we'll look back at the investments that PSE and Avista are making in renewable energy and be thankful we did it. But nobody likes rates going up to pay for it - no matter how you look at it or view climate change.

Hi Andy, great post, and especially thanks for all the links for further research. What I hope for from the "Smart-grid" is monitoring and reaction ability leading to improvements in the timing of various large energy users in order to reduce peak load and perhaps be able to align our timing of consumption with when sources of renewable energy are available. Along with improved storage capabilities, and of course significant efficiency improvements, we should be able to maintain our high standard of living and grow our economy without the need for building new carbon-based power generation plants.
